Income generating activities are focused mainly on improving agricultural productivity and facilitating access to markets. When production and consumption is increased among the vulnerable and marginalized community, it enhances the food system and overall health of the public. About 62% of communities in the mountains of Nepal rely on agricultural yields. Agronomic practice is the main source of income in those places. Our commitment is to making nutrition sustainable through increasing household income by improving agricultural techniques and information.

Greenhouse Project
In the mountainous regions of Nepal, most communities do not have access to affordable and healthy organic vegetables. Children eat nutritious food at school, but we know that was not always the case at home. So, as a trial we started a one greenhouse to one house project in one of our program sites. Currently 30 families are participating in this project. After reviewing the outcomes, we aim to expand the project to other program sites.

Chicken Farming Currently, our poultry farm project has only been implemented for the school feeding program. It supplies meet to the children in two schools. Our future goal is to expand the project to every school program site and eventually expand to the community as an income generating activity.

Potato Farming In this project, we find a community where potato farming is failing due to low production. Many of the farmers feel discouraged because potatoes grown in the mountain are in high demand and should be providing a regular cash income. Our team comes to encourage the farmers and teach them new techniques. We lease a small portion of land and use our techniques to plant potatoes as a demo. We invite the community to get involved in all the stages of potato farming and to teach them our techniques. After the farmers have seen the improvements we have applied, we encourage them to invest in their farms and implement the practices we taught them.

As an investment, we provide healthy seeds to the farmers at a discounted rate. After the harvest, we encourage farmers to save some potatoes as seed for the next season.

For example: In one of the program sites, the community participated in potato farming and ordered 40 quintal potato seeds which yielded on average about 320 quintals. This was a big win and brought an increase in income. (1 quintal equals 100 kgs)
