The Children’s Feeding Program is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of communities in Nepal’s Baitadi and Dadeldhura districts by ensuring that children and families have access to nutritious food, practical health education, and supportive learning environments.

Operating across 9 public school sites, 6 in Baitadi and three in Dadeldhura, the program currently supports 577 children who benefit from daily nutritious meals prepared with care by trained kitchen staff and a remarkable network of 505 community volunteers

Our Purpose

Good nutrition is the foundation of a healthy and thriving community. The primary goal of this program is to promote holistic community health by improving nutrition and expanding access to health education.

We serve:

  • Primary-aged children, with daily meals provided at school
  • Toddlers and infants, who receive age-appropriate nutritional support
  • Pregnant and lactating women, with improved dietary support
  • Families, through training in balanced diets and household farming.

By improving nutrition and equipping families with practical knowledge, the program lays a foundation for better health and disease prevention in the community.

 How the Program Works

Our approach combines practical nutrition, community involvement, and sustainable food production.

1. School-Based Kitchens

Every participating school has a dedicated kitchen where meals are freshly prepared each day. These kitchens are staffed by trained food preparers and supported by committed volunteers.

2. Community Volunteers

More than 500 volunteers play an essential role in preparing and distributing meals, demonstrating extraordinary community ownership and solidarity.

3. Feeding Shelters

Safe, clean feeding shelters are constructed at each site, providing children with comfortable places to eat, socialize, and learn healthy habits.

4. School Gardens

Each school maintains its own garden, growing fresh vegetables that supplement the daily meals and introduce children to sustainable farming and nutrition.

Beyond Meals: Growing Healthier Lives

Nutrition doesn’t end at the school gate. Families are taught how to build well-balanced diets and how to improve household farming practices, ensuring that healthy choices become a sustainable part of daily life.

Through ongoing health education, families learn how nutrition and disease prevention go hand-in-hand, helping communities build resilience and long-term well-being.
